Oh, hello there. I guess this is the intro post to my public blog.

Self-portrait that is highly accurate.Well, there’s really no guessing; it is.

I’m not sure how many people will eventually read this. I think it’s important to write something, anything, which states the purpose of the aforementioned and presently-you-are-looking-at website.

Empersonal will hopefully be an online storehouse of articles that discuss my interests. I thought for a long time about a “theme” for my public blog, but I think putting a label on it would end up restricting anything new or different that I’d like to do with it in the future.

This blog is, basically, me. It will include everything that I enjoy (or at times, loath) about society, nerd culture, media, film, art, gender roles, and potentially more. I’ve been writing for a very long time, but not yet in a public forum. All the mishaps, epiphanies, and internet fails to come will be documented here on Empersonal.

Just like everybody, I enjoy talking about my interests and personal experience. However, explaining myself biographically is… well…icky and borderline narcissistic. Unfortunately, you can’t really accomplish anything in life if you can’t coherently speak about yourself. So, if you’re interested in some of my background information…

My name, for all legal purposes, is Emily Marks. I live in South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina, majoring in one of the most self-indulgent and impractical arts: English.

Before college, I wrote constantly. I was lucky enough to be saved from public middle school and placed in Rollings School of the Arts with writing as my “core focus.” I have a bit of experience in art (prominently seen in my ridiculous comics), but writing has always been my favorite pastime.

I was even luckier to have then snagged an expansive position at National Agents Alliance as a “communications specialist.” As you know, “specialist” means anything and everything under the sun. With the mentorship of established blogger, web developer, SEO specialist, Online Marketer and Professor of Awesome Stephen Ward, I learned a tremendous amount about blogging and, social media and SEO. With his guidance, I became the main contributor to NAA’s Sales Blog, writing weekly articles centering around insurance sales and the like.

After leaving NAA due to the Titanic that was the U.S. economy in 2009, I came back down to South Carolina and now am struggling to rebuild my career. I would like to work in copywriting again someday, but as of now I’m working in an 8 to 5 job in inventory.

Although it’s been a long time since I’ve written a public blog, I hope to use this one as a way of documenting my thoughts, expressing myself, and leaving an online footprint as to my abilities as a writer.

So…thanks so much for visiting. Hope to see you again soon!
